Decantation
This is the simplest and quickest method out of all of them. Decanting is used to separate an insoluble solid from a liquid.
Method:
Wait until the solid has settled at the bottom of the beaker before carefully pouring the liquid into another beaker, leaving the solid in the original beaker. Make sure to hold the beaker at an angle. However, some liquid may remain with the solid at the bottom.
Example:
Separating water from a mixture of water and sand. This is shown by the diagram on the left.
